Favourite tracks

  1. 01 I Ran (So Far Away) — A Flock of Seagulls Wave 103. The synth line that means 'neon' to me forever.
  2. 02 Billie Jean — Michael Jackson Flash FM, windows down, wanted level rising.
  3. 03 Kids in America — Kim Wilde Wave 103 again. The station was simply correct.

Liner notes

Not a real tape — a memory of one. Vice City shipped with whole radio stations of licensed 1980s music, DJs talking over the intros, ads between the songs, and it taught a generation of us the decade’s back catalogue as a side effect of stealing cars.

This mixtape exhibit stands in for the dial itself: Wave 103 for the new wave, Flash FM for the pop, V-Rock for the hair, Fever 105 for the groove. The game is shelved in the Cartridge wing; the sound of it lives here, because that’s how it lives in my head — two exhibits, one memory.
