Liner notes

This record earns its wall space honestly: it’s the one actually playing. The main site keeps a Now page, and as of this exhibit’s installation the listening line reads Feeling Good — Nina Simone. The museum doesn’t pretend; it documents.

What keeps me here is the confidence. “Feeling Good” starts with a voice completely alone — no count-in, no net — and when the brass finally lands it feels like the room changing temperature. Simone was a classically trained pianist who was refused the career she’d prepared for, and you can hear both facts in every bar: the discipline, and the defiance.
