The story

This is the closest the wing gets to how photographs actually happen: not one perfect print, but a strip of near-misses with a single keeper circled in grease pencil. A winter walk when the light was flat and the cold made everything look honest — a skyline, a bare tree, a bus that pulled away before I was ready, water under a low sun, a bridge, some hills going blue at the edges.

Frame 04 is the one that survived the pencil, and I still couldn’t tell you exactly why — something about it just held. That’s the part of taking pictures nobody teaches you: you shoot the whole roll to earn the one frame, and the choosing matters as much as the seeing. The sheet stays in the archive with all thirty-six intact, because the ones I didn’t keep are the reason I kept the one I did.
