Why it mattered

Rise to Honor did one strange, brilliant thing: it moved the punches to the right analog stick. You didn’t press a button to attack — you flicked toward the person, and Kit Yun flowed that way, mid-crowd, like choreography. Jet Li did the motion capture himself, and the game feels it: economical, precise, no wasted frames.

I think about that stick a lot when I build interfaces. The controls disappeared into the gesture; the surface was the fight. Two decades later I’m still chasing that feeling in software — manipulation you do, not menus you operate.
