My note
Contra was hard enough that you learnt every level by repetition. The bridge, the waterfall and the bosses all became muscle memory. Finding the spread gun felt like being given a proper advantage for once.
Then there was the code: up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right, B, A. Thirty lives. It was the first cheat I memorised and the first bit of software knowledge I passed between friends like a secret.
